CloudSight delivers intelligent insights into all data from the cloud. CloudSight is a cloud processing engine that analyzes millions of data points from all your AiRE instances with AI to present a variety of data‑driven reports. Virtual machines

Long‑term archiving for tier 3 cold data

You may be required to archive certain business documents for up to a decade or need to preserve research for a lifetime. You don’t need fast access or maximum redundancy for this cold data, so you don’t need to pay for higher than storage tier 3. But, even though you don’t need immediate access, you also can’t afford to lose your cold data permanently. Long‑term archives can also add up over time, making it a challenge to acquire more storage capacity.

From minutes to seconds

How AiRE improved noventum’s virtual machine failover performance from minutes to seconds and made provisioning a piece of cake.

The customer

noventum consulting is an IT management consulting company with over 20 years of experience that helps both DAX‑listed corporate groups and SMEs establish a modern corporate culture with smart IT processes and structures. noventum’s outstanding 2019 “Great Place to Work” ranking as eighth best in Germany means that the company’s 100+ employees spread across offices in Münster (HQ), Düsseldorf and Luxemburg are highly motivated to help clients solve complex IT challenges.

The company provides a complete range of services centered around IT strategy, sourcing, technology consulting, SAP process & systems, business intelligence, HR management and culture change management. This allows noventum consultants to guide clients to successful IT projects every step of the way, from strategy to implementation.

The challenge

noventum explored the possibility of upgrading legacy IT equipment but was not convinced by the cost when compared with how much the upgraded equipment would benefit the company. Therefore, noventum decided to look into whether new equipment from a new vendor could deliver higher ROI and meet the company’s needs better.

One of the challenges faced by noventum was to improve the handling of Hyper‑V virtual disks, as cluster switching was taking too long and eating up valuable time. Another time‑consuming task was accurately provisioning multi‑tenancy storage. Because this took time, the extra effort to provision properly was not always made, resulting in unnecessary inefficiencies.

The solution

STORViX provided AiRE IntelligentFiler model 3122 for a six‑month trial period so noventum could determine whether it is a solution that meets their needs. As the heart of IntelligentFiler, AiRE has powerful features that serve as the lifeblood of the full AiRE IntelligentFiler solution. These features provide continuous protection from corruption, disasters and breaches while optimal performance is always ensured by automating I/O path management, application profile recognition and data reduction.

With AiRE IntelligentFiler, the wait time when a virtual machine moved between two servers was cut from minutes to just seconds. This significant improvement saved noventum time and helped noventum serve its clients faster and more efficiently. In addition, with the power of full multi‑tenancy and elastic provisioning, noventum was freed from having to either spend too much time on provisioning or suffer inefficiencies from failing to get provisioning exactly right. This led to significant gains in resource optimization.

Given these outstanding performance improvements and added value, noventum was naturally more than happy to move forward with AiRE IntelligentFiler and go into full production. And the transition was far easier than expected – the user‑friendliness was so high that it took less than one hour to configure for full production usage.
